Galactic Toss Monkey

So I've finally made the change to incorporate full CSS into the main page. I recommend using at least full screen IE in 1024x768 resolution to view the site. Be sure to comment on the "new" site if you even notice much of a difference. If you don't like the new layout, I'll leave the old layout up until I can think of a better design.

Apparently, the Columbia space shuttle has just crashed into central Texas this morning. Obviously all astronauts were killed, including one Isreali. Unfortunately some people are idiots and will try connecting this with terrorism. When will people realize not everyone from the Middle-East is associated with terrorism?

I got this interesting Life 101 magazine in the mail today and learned some cool things. I have a new found respect for Natalie Portman. She has been attending Harvard since 1999 and has had three different people ask her when she's ready to drop school for full-time acting. She told them she'd ditch her movie career before ditching the books. Also, did you know that Tommy Lee Jones graduated cum laude in English from Harvard? And that he played football and shared a room with Al Gore?

Slashdot had this cool link to a site for Engrish LotR: TTT captions. These captions actually appear on the Asian DVD bootleg. They're quite hilarious. You sometimes wonder if people actually used Babelfish to translate them.

Half day!

Meh, I got just over 5 hours sleep last night. 6 tonight probably. Though I guarantee at least 12 hours on friday night. Weekends rule.

We have a half day of school tomorrow (today technically). Supposedly it's a teacher's in-service day or something. Oh well, like I care, eh? No school is no school. Or well, half in this case. I need to do some LotR: RotK reading over the weekend as well. But with this whole half day deal tomorrow, I seriously think I'll get a chance to play Prime this weekend.

Lord Gothmog showed me this link today about Xupiter. It's so gay. You'll have to hit up the link for the full story, but in short it's a malicious little bugger. People are saying that they chose not to install it, but it was somehow magically installed on their system. Also, it's a total bitch to remove. Their uninstaller doesn't work, and the program installs new registry keys when it updates itself. If you just try deleting the files, they'll reinstall themselves. It's crazy. Beware.

Daily random: How hard is it to see a huge white sign with big clearly defined bold black letters saying "PLEASE NO ALCOHOL" in the middle of the checkout aisle? I seriously think some people can't read.

Need sleep

Lack of sleep sucks. I seriously think I need at least 12 hours of sleep to function normally and I have been getting less than 6 the past three days. 5, 5, and 3 to be specific. That should have been spent on one day, not three. Anyways, going off 3 hours of sleep today was not fun. Just thought I'd mention that. I'll hopefully get 6 hours tonight...

Anyway, I noticed at the local Wal-Mart that Turok: Evolution is being sold for a measely $20. I wonder if it's worth picking up. They also have a bunch of PS2 games going for like $20 which I'm sure plenty are worth picking up if you own a PS2. Additionally, the nearest Best Buy (an hour away) has Tony Hawk 3 on sale for $10. If you don't have that game and you have this offer in your area, you'd be a fool not to go for it.

As you've probably noticed, there have been some minor changes to the site lately. I plan on getting rid of the tables used in the site's layout as well. If you have checked out cssindex.php, you'll see the changes I'm leaning towards. Everything looks quite familiar, but I couldn't get it to match exactly (the nav and content sides were uneven) so I compromised and added a scroll bar. The main benefits are in the coding though. No more tables at all. All CSS and div tags. Neater code rules. Though I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with the new look, which is why I haven't changed the main site.

Random thought of the day: I hate people that request their groceries be paper bagged.

Barry is here

Okay, several things to mention here. First, here is the Dave Barry article on TTT I promised. I scanned it from school this morning. It's a little big but didn't look right when I shrunk it down. Anyway, it's a great read. Give it a look.

Also, I was reading the newspaper this morning and found some interesting things. From what I understand Bush said he is not going to use a draft. But instead, he will call back inactive and retired National Guard and Army members. Wild. I guess I won't be going to Canada afterall.

With that said, I leave you with this link.

Warning, huge update to follow:

As reported at Slashdot as well as many other popular sites, a new worm was unleashed upon the web. Several large sites were inaccessible on January 25th in the early morning hours. This worm aimed at Microsoft SQL (har, MySQL owns you) took advantage of non-updated software. The patch had been out for nearly a year, but many failed to apply it and suffered the consequences. It is said the attack pretty much shut down 5 of the 13 root nameservers that night. Most everything has been restored since then, but nonetheless this shows how weak the internet system truly is. Pretty much all of the root nameservers suffered some serious bandwidth loss.

I was reading the local newspaper this morning when I found a humorous editorial (written by Dave Barry) I thought I needed to share with you all, especially the LotR fans. The article is on the Opinion page, and it's talking about the new The Two Towers movie. It was great, I'll try to get the paper scanned during class tomorrow.

At the Technical Academy, we've been working on some introductory Java, and it's been going pretty good. Actually, only me and someone else are doing java right now, but some others will end up doing it later. We're the test subjects since the rest of the class isn't as experienced as we are. Anyway, it's pretty cool and I'm learning some basic stuff. I'll be sure to post up all my projects at some point.

I gave my $1000 Wal-Mart scholarship to the guidance counselor today. She's just gotta fill out a couple sections, attach the seventh semester transcript, and she's going to send it in for me. She really does a lot for us students. Oh, and I heard I'm officially one of three Valedictorians for the class of 2003. We have like three Salutatorians too. Wild, eh?

Getting back to the topic of my site, now I'm hearing I should scrap my tables and convert the whole site to CSS by using div tags and such. Should be interesting if I make the switch.

Ergh, I need to play Prime...
